Wrought iron railings in Barcelona. The main floor ("principal") of apartment blocks in the city often had a large window at the front, intended for the use of the owners of the building. The further up the building, the smaller were the windows and balconies. Floors 2 and 3 were often rented out while floors at the very top (in the days before lifts) were often kept for the servants.
